ISLAMABAD, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and four others injured in a collision between a passenger car and a truck in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, officials said on Wednesday.
The accident occurred late on Tuesday night in Lasbela district along the Makran Coastal Highway, according to a statement from the state-run emergency service Rescue 1122.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the path of the oncoming truck," the statement said.
Rescue personnel and highway patrolling police rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and the injured to a nearby hospital.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan due to poor road conditions, lack of vehicle maintenance, and violation of traffic rules. ■
