NEW YORK, April 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 699.57 points, or 1.73 percent, to 39,669.39. The S&P 500 sank 120.93 points, or 2.24 percent, to 5,275.7. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 516.01 points, or 3.07 percent, to 16,307.16.
Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with technology and consumer discretionary leading the laggards by dropping 3.94 percent and 2.69 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy bucked the trend by rising 0.80 percent. ■
