MEXICO CITY, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Japanese automaker Honda is not planning to adjust its production operations in Mexico, despite the imposition of U.S. tariffs, Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard confirmed on Tuesday.
Ebrard was responding to a report that Honda was considering moving part of its automobile production from Mexico and Canada to the United States.
"I can assure you that Honda's executives in Mexico have assured us there are no changes to their production plans here," Ebrard said in a short social media post.
The reported shift in Honda's production plans is believed to be driven by U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles.
Honda is a leading manufacturer of light vehicles in Mexico, producing some 49,509 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, the latest official data shows. ■
