DOHA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met on Tuesday in Doha with Syria's leader Ahmed al-Sharaa to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, according to a statement issued by the administrative office of the Qatari emir.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations, and explored ways to strengthen and expand cooperation, particularly in the political and diplomatic fields.
Discussions also covered key regional and international developments, with both leaders exchanging views on efforts to enhance regional security and stability.
This is Al-Sharaa's first visit to the Gulf country since he assumed office. Al Thani visited Damascus in January, the first by an Arab leader since a change in Syria's government last December.
In March, Qatar announced the start of supplying Syria with natural gas, enabling the generation of 400 megawatts of electricity daily at the Deir Ali power plant in Syria to help address the country's severe electricity shortage.
Al-Sharaa's visit followed his trip to the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, where he met with Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who expressed his country's support for Syria's reconstruction. ■
