TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Japanese public projected that prices would rise by an average of 12.2 percent a year later amid widespread inflation concerns, a survey from the Bank of Japan (BOJ) showed Friday.

The growth marks the highest level since comparable data began in September 2006.

The BOJ conducts the nationwide survey every three months, targeting Japanese residents aged 20 and above. In the latest round, conducted over approximately one month up to April 4, over 2,000 individuals responded.

According to the findings, 86.7 percent of participants believe prices will be higher a year from now, a one-point increase from the previous survey.

The average expected price increase, now at 12.2 percent, surpasses the 11.5-percent recorded last time.

The sharp rise in inflation expectations was driven by ongoing price hikes in daily necessities such as food.

Meanwhile, with growing uncertainty over the global economy partly due to U.S. trade policies, market watchers are closely monitoring how the BOJ will respond with future inflation outlooks.
