NEW YORK, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 1.99 percent to 100.866 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1215 U.S. dollars from 1.0964 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.2982 U.S. dollars from 1.2803 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 144.58 Japanese yen, lower than 147.45 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.8242 Swiss francs from 0.8549 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3986 Canadian dollars from 1.4116 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar declined to 9.8491 Swedish kronor from 9.9452 Swedish kronor.
