Asian stocks and major U.S. and European stock index futures tumbled Thursday morning following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of reciprocal global tariffs, fueling mounting fears of a trade war that could push the world into recession.
Speaking in the White House Rose Garden, Trump said Wednesday that he would impose a 10 percent "minimum baseline tariff" on all imports and held up a chart showing higher duties on some of the country's biggest trading partners, including 20 percent on the European Union, 24 percent on Japan, 34 percent on China and 49 percent on Cambodia.

Yemen's Houthis claim target U.S. aircraft carrier, shoot down drone
Yemen's Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said on Thursday that the group launched fresh attacks against the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea early Thursday morning, and had shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone over the Yemeni western province of Hodeidah.
In a televised statement aired by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, Sarea said several cruise missiles and drones targeted the aircraft carrier and escorting warships in response to the U.S. aggression on the group's positions across northern Yemen.
Pentagon's acting inspector general announces probe into Hegseth's use of Signal
The U.S. Defense Department's acting Inspector General Steven Stebbins said on Thursday he is beginning an "evaluation" of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's use of the Signal messaging app to discuss military operations, according to a memorandum.
The objective of this evaluation is to determine the extent to which the defense secretary and other Defense Department personnel complied with the department's policies and procedures for the use of a commercial messaging application for official business, the memorandum said.
Myanmar's earthquake death toll rises to 3,145
The death toll from a 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 3,145, with 4,589 people injured and 221 missing, the Myanmar Radio and Television reported on Thursday.■
