ROME, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Two individuals were found dead in the wreckage of an ultralight aircraft that crashed Wednesday afternoon in the hinterland of Genoa, Italian media Rai News reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft -- believed to be a Piper -- was flying at low altitude when it suddenly plummeted. It was reportedly seen flying close to the treetops before disappearing into a fogbank. A loud explosion was later heard in the area, confirming the crash.
Firefighters, emergency medical services, and alpine rescue teams were deployed to the crash site.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. ■
