One of Africa's most successful Olympians, Coventry made history on March 20 by becoming the first African and first female IOC president. She previously served as Zimbabwe's sports minister from September 2018 until her IOC election.

On Tuesday night, Mnangagwa held a state banquet to honor Coventry on her historic election, hailing her as Africa's pride and urging her to champion opportunities for young athletes across Africa and the developing world.
