ULAN BATOR, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian police have arrested several men involved in poaching endangered brown bear and moose, the Ecological Police Department said Tuesday.

The suspects were arrested on Monday while attempting to sell the skin of one brown bear and internal organs of one moose near the capital city of Ulan Bator, the department said in a statement.

The case was under investigations.

According to recent amendments to the Animal Protection Law and the Criminal Code of Mongolia, an illegal hunting of moose, listed in the Red Book of Mongolia as a rare animal, will be fined up to 40 million tugrik (about 11,500 U.S. dollars) or punished by imprisonment for a term of two up to eight years.

Under the law, a person convicted of poaching and killing endangered brown bear will be fined up to 27 million tugrik (about 7,762 dollars) or punished by imprisonment for a term of one up to five years.
