SANAA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were wounded in nine U.S. airstrikes on the Yemeni northern province of Saada on Monday night, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The airstrikes included eight targeting areas around the province's namesake city of Saada, while the ninth strike hit the Kitaf area, the television reported.

The airstrikes came hours after Israeli media reported the interception of a projectile fired from Yemen, which triggered sirens in central Israel. The Houthi group has yet to comment.

On Sunday, a U.S. airstrike hit a building in the capital Sanaa, killing one person and injuring 15 others, including three children and two women, according to the local health authorities. The airstrike came hours after the Houthi group took responsibility for a ballistic missile attack on Israel that was reportedly intercepted by the Israeli defenses.

The strike on Monday was the latest in Washington's renewed military offensive against the Houthis, which started earlier this month when the Houthis announced their plans to resume attacks on Red Sea shipping due to Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
