BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- March 22 marks World Water Day, a United Nations initiative to raise global awareness of the value of water resources and the need for their sustainable management.

More than two millennia ago, during China's Warring States period, Li Bing, Governor of Shu Commandery under the Qin State, oversaw the construction of Dujiangyan--a pioneering irrigation system that achieved automatic water regulation and flood control without the use of dams or gates.

This ancient marvel, still functioning to this day, has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with nearby Mount Qingcheng.

What philosophy of water management lies behind this enduring achievement?

Let us hear the story from Li Bing himself.
