LONDON, March 20 (Xinhua) -- British Foreign Secretary David Lammy confirmed on Thursday that a British aid worker was wounded in a strike on a United Nations compound in Gaza. He described the March 18 attack as "the deadliest single day for Palestinians since the war began."

Speaking in the House of Commons on Monday, Lammy stated that Israel's 16-day blockade preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza constituted a "breach" of international law. His remarks prompted Downing Street to swiftly clarify that the British government's official position remains unchanged, maintaining that Israel's actions in Gaza are at "clear risk" of violating international humanitarian law.

On Thursday, Lammy acknowledged that he "could have been a little clearer in the House on Monday." He also reiterated calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, stating, "More bloodshed is in no one's interest."
