VILNIUS, March 19 (Xinhua) -- A missile component from a Russian 9M335 (SA-22 Greyhound) air defense system was found Tuesday on Klaipeda's beach, Lithuanian authorities confirmed.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces identified the object as part of a missile's initial acceleration and stabilization system. It likely came from a Pantsir-M air defense system fired during a Russian naval exercise in the Baltic Sea. While such components rarely wash ashore, they are considered non-hazardous empty shells.

Klaipeda police initially received a report of an "explosive-like object" and warned residents to keep their distance. Naval personnel later confirmed it posed no danger and moved it to a secure location.
