KATHMANDU, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested a Nepali national with unsourced foreign currencies worth 250 million Nepali rupees (1.8 million U.S. dollars), an officer said on Tuesday.
Under a tip-off, a police team nabbed Kusang Lama on the outskirts of Kathmandu on Monday night as he was driving a truck toward the border point of Rasuwagadhi, and uncovered 1.37 million euros (1.5 million dollars) and 320,850 U.S. dollars in different denominations.
"The money was hidden in a false bottom of the truck driven by Lama," Ramesh Basnet, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, told a press conference.
He said Lama is a convicted gold smuggler who was released recently after serving five years in jail. ■
