DAR ES SALAAM, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzanian government has registered 2,099 investment projects worth around 25 billion U.S. dollars from March 2021 to February 2025, an official has disclosed.
Gerson Msigwa, the chief government spokesperson, told a news conference in the country's Coast region that the projects were registered through the Tanzania Investment Center during four years of President Samia Suluhu Hassan's administration.
"The 2,000 plus registered projects created 539,488 jobs for local people," said Msigwa, also the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports.
According to Msigwa, 1,982 of the 2,099 registered investment projects have been launched. Meanwhile, 476 programs were joint ventures, 719 projects were owned by Tanzanian investors, and 904 projects were owned by foreign investors.
He noted that 45 percent of the registered projects were in the manufacturing sector and attributed the surge in investment registrations to the favorable business environment fostered by President Hassan's administration. ■
