GAZA/JERUSALEM, March 7 (Xinhua) -- At least two Palestinians were killed on Friday in an Israeli airstrike east of Gaza City, Palestinian sources said.
Local sources and eyewitnesses told Xinhua that an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of Palestinians in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, with a missile, marking the second such attack in 24 hours.
Medics told Xinhua that medical crews transported the bodies of the two Palestinians to a hospital following the airstrike.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it carried out an airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip "to remove threat."
"Several terrorists were identified operating near IDF troops and planting an explosive device in the ground in northern Gaza," the IDF said.
These developments come amid ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip, as negotiations on the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas remain stalled. ■
