BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.18 percent to 3,373.03 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.08 percent lower at 10,983.04 points.
The combined turnover of the stock market stood at 2.08 trillion yuan (about 290.03 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.19 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Companies in the sectors of chemical fiber, airport and shipping, and agricultural product processing led the gains, while the medical services and education sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.67 percent to close at 2,266.24 points. ■
