KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- A total of 9.05 million jobs were recorded in Malaysia's economic sector during the fourth quarter of 2024, reflecting 1.3 percent year-on-year growth, official data showed Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that this indicates Malaysia has sustained its positive economic expansion in improving labor participation across industries, to meet the current labor demand.
Of this total, 97.9 percent of jobs were filled, while the remaining 2.1 percent was vacant.
According to the DOSM, the number of filled jobs increased by 1.3 percent year-on-year, with 8.86 million jobs during the quarter.
The positive growth was mainly driven by the services sector with a growth of 1.6 percent, followed by the manufacturing and agriculture sector at 1.4 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.
"The stability in labor demand indicates that industries experience steady labor force availability and jobseekers have greater employment opportunities and thus the overall economic outlook in 2025 remains positive," the DOSM said. ■
