KABUL, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A newly constructed healthcare center has been put into operation in eastern Afghanistan's Logar province, the country's Ministry of Public Health said in a statement on Wednesday.

Financially supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and implemented by the ministry, this project costs nearly 424,000 U.S. dollars, said the statement, adding that the 30-bed health center would provide services to 2,500 families in the province's Mohammad Agha district.

In an effort to enhance healthcare services, the ministry declared last December that it would construct 318 general hospitals across the country.

The Afghan caretaker government has committed to enhancing the healthcare system by constructing additional hospitals and clinics throughout the Central Asian country.
