CANBERRA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Australia's Prime Minister (PM) Anthony Albanese has vowed that his government will continue to act on the climate crisis after U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris agreement.

Albanese on Tuesday said that Australia is a sovereign nation and that his government's policies will not be impacted by Trump's position on climate change.

"We'll continue to take action on climate change," he told Seven Network television.

He said that Australia has been particularly adversely affected by extreme weather events and that the green energy transition also presents an "enormous" economic opportunity for the country.

Albanese was speaking after Trump signed dozens of executive orders following his inauguration, including one withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Agreement.
