NEW DELHI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and six others injured Friday after a speeding mini truck collided with a van, causing it to ram into a stationary bus in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said.
The accident took place on the Pune-Nashik highway near Narayangaon in Pune district, about 185 km east of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.
Immediately after the accident, locals and police rushed to the spot and took the victims to the nearest hospital.
Police registered a case and ordered an investigation into the accident.
Deadly road accidents are common in India due to overloading, bad conditions of roads and reckless driving. ■
