BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 2.66 percent to 3,262.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.14 percent lower at 10,088.06 points.
The combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 1.4 trillion yuan (about 194.77 billion U.S. dollars), up 50.8 billion yuan from the previous trading day.
Shares in the hotel and tourism sector were among the biggest gainers, while those related to motorbikes and aircraft manufacturing suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.79 percent to close at 2,060.44 points. ■
