MANILA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- A police officer killed two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle who shot at him during his patrol in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, a senior police officer said Wednesday.
Colonel Kimberly Molitas, director of Zamboanga Police Office, said the new year's eve shootout took place in front of a church.
Molitas said the police officer was wounded in the attack but was able to shoot and kill the gunmen.
The gunman driving the motorcycle died at the scene, while his companion was pronounced dead at the city hospital.
Police were investigating the identities of the slain suspects, Molitas said. ■
