ISLAMABAD, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight en route from Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi to Islamabad made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff on Tuesday due to a technical fault, the PIA spokesperson said.

The issue was detected in the aircraft's landing gear, which failed to retract after takeoff, prompting the captain to contact the control tower and request an emergency return to Karachi, the spokesperson said.

Emergency protocols were activated, and the aircraft landed safely, the spokesperson said, adding that all passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

The passengers were later transferred to another aircraft and continued their journey to Islamabad, the spokesperson added.

The affected aircraft has been grounded for inspection and maintenance, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the malfunction.
