KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia and Turkmenistan are committed to strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector, the leaders of both countries said on Thursday after a bilateral meeting.
This cooperation will be long-term and mutually beneficial, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said in a joint statement at the conclusion of the latter's inaugural official visit to Malaysia.
"Recognizing a shared vision, the two leaders emphasized the significance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, and noted (Malaysia's state-owned oil and gas firm) Petronas' positive, long-lasting experience in this field," the statement said.
"Both leaders are committed to building a robust, long-term partnership with a strong focus on the oil and gas industry, aiming for continued growth and mutual prosperity. This reaffirms both countries' commitment to exploring new opportunities in the spirit of mutual benefit," it added.
Both leaders are committed to cooperating and coordinating through various international cooperative platforms, including the United Nations, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other international organization frameworks.
They also witnessed the exchange of notes between Malaysia and Turkmenistan on partial visa abolishment agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders, air services agreement and aviation industry, as well as between the institutes of foreign relations of both countries on cooperation in the field of training for diplomats and scientific exchange. ■
