BERLIN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Although 2024 has yet to conclude, the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Tuesday that 2024 is set to be the warmest year in Germany since nationwide records began in 1881.

The findings come from the DWD's preliminary annual report, which did not include specific measured values.

"It has never been as warm as 2024 in Germany since the end of the 19th century," said Tobias Fuchs, head of climate and environment at the DWD.

The record follows a concerning pattern -- 2023 was previously Germany's warmest year on record, and 2022 was also among the top two warmest years.

Fuchs emphasized that the effects of escalating global warming are becoming increasingly evident through more frequent and severe weather extremes. "As a society and as individuals, we must do much more to protect our climate," he said.

EU's climate service Copernicus reported last week that November 2024 was the second warmest November globally, confirming expectations that 2024 will be the warmest on record.
