KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian automaker Proton announced Monday that it has launched the firm's and the nation's first electric vehicle.
Its new energy vehicle arm, PRO-NET, has launched the Proton e.MAS 7, with prices starting from 109,800 ringgit (24,660 U.S. dollars), the automaker said in a statement.
Proton sees the launch a driver toward sustainability and innovation in the country's transportation sector.
It noted the move was in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap, which sets the transformation of Malaysia into a net-zero emissions nation by 2050 among its main objectives.
"Moving forward, we plan to export this latest model starting with Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Mauritius and Nepal next year, helping us to solidify our position in the international market and strengthen our commitment to providing eco-friendly, accessible mobility solutions globally," said Zhang Qiang, chief executive officer of PRO-NET. ■
