ANKARA/KHARTOUM, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye is ready to mediate between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to resolve their disputes, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday.

During a phone call with Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, head of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council and commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Erdogan emphasized Türkiye's commitment to fostering peace and stability in Sudan, underscoring the importance of preserving Sudan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, according to a statement from Erdogan's office.

The Turkish president told Al-Burhan that preventing external interventions in Sudan is a fundamental principle for Türkiye.

During the call, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues, said the statement.

Erdogan reiterated Ankara's willingness to play a constructive role in addressing the Sudan-UAE tensions, stressing that Türkiye stands ready to support Sudan's path toward peace and stability.

"President Erdogan expressed his country's readiness to mediate between Sudan and the UAE to achieve security and peace in Sudan," Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council said in a statement.

According to the statement, Al-Burhan commended Türkiye's supportive stance towards Sudan and its efforts to help achieve peace and stability in the region.

Sudan has been gripped by a devastating conflict between the SAF and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since mid-April 2023.

The relations between Sudan and the UAE have been tense as the SAF accused the UAE of arming the RSF, which the UAE denies as "baseless allegations lacking reliable evidence."
