MANILA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- A residential fire that broke out Saturday morning in the Philippine capital claimed the lives of five people, the Philippines' Bureau of Fire Protection said.
The bureau said the fire broke out around 7:14 a.m. local time, gutting a house in Navotas City in less than 40 minutes and resulting in the death of five people, a 41-year-old woman and four young females aged 17, 15 and 12.
The victims were rushed to a local hospital, where they were declared dead due to smoke inhalation.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire. ■
