GENEVA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Swiss parliament elected Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter as President of the Swiss Confederation for 2025 on Wednesday.
Keller-Sutter, 60, received 168 out of 203 valid votes and will assume office in January. She has served as Head of the Federal Department of Finance since January 2023.
Economics Minister Guy Parmelin will be vice president of the Federal Council for the upcoming year.
Each December, the Swiss parliament elects the President of the Swiss Confederation from the seven members of the Federal Council for a one-year term. The president, regarded as first among equals, serves as the formal head of Switzerland's seven-member executive branch while continuing their regular ministerial responsibilities. ■
