KABUL, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Counter-narcotics police have arrested 21 people on charges of drug trafficking in Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul, the country's Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Tuesday.

The alleged suspects were arrested following several operations carried out by counter-narcotics police on the outskirts of Kabul city. Their dossiers were referred to the judiciary for further investigation, said the statement.

According to the statement, the police have also confiscated some narcotics, including four kg of hashish, two kg of heroin and 10,000 stimulant tablets from the detainees.

In addition, Afghan police have rounded up 77 drug users from Kabul and sent them to rehabilitation centers for treatment on the same day, said the ministry.

The Afghan caretaker government has stepped up its crackdown on illicit drugs and those involved in the business, vowing to fight the menace until the country is free from poppy cultivation and substances used in the manufacturing of heroin.
