BAKU, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan is set to drill its first onshore horizontal well, marking a significant milestone in the country's oil and gas industry.
The well, located in the Kursangi and Garabaghli fields, will target oil reservoirs at a depth of 4,400 meters, with a lateral length of approximately 400 meters.
The project is part of a broader initiative to drill three additional advanced wells, ending a 14-year hiatus in drilling activities at these fields.
GL Group, the project owner, announced on Friday that a tender was issued this week for drilling services, inviting local and international companies to participate. The campaign will use new technologies designed to improve operational efficiency in the oil and gas sector.
GL Group manages five oil and gas fields across Azerbaijan and is also involved in a gas project in Türkiye. ■
