BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Oscar has to accept a significant pay reduction if he agrees to sign a new contract with Shanghai Port, according to a Shanghai local media report.
The Brazilian midfielder's contract is to expire at the end of this month, and Shanghai Port has prepared a new contract for him with a seriously reduced salary, a Xinmin Evening News report said on Wednesday.
In compliance with the salary cap for foreign players imposed by the Chinese Football Association, Shanghai Port can only pay Oscar a maximum of three million euros a year, a significantly reduced sum compared with the 240-million-euro salary stipulated at his current contract, the report said.
"If the 32-year-old player cannot accept the new deal, he has to leave," the report said.
Oscar admitted that he was being left between a rock and a hard place.
"It's difficult to talk about this issue now, and I will make the final decision after discussion with my agent and family in the next few weeks," he said. ■
