BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Brunei is planning to provide a care provider course to improve the quality of care for persons with disabilities, specifically for the care of elderly individuals with disabilities requiring assistance from others, local media reported on Wednesday.

"Through this course, family members or caregivers will be able to learn proper caregiving techniques to ensure the safety of persons with disabilities and the elderly in daily care," said Haji Nazmi, Brunei's minister of culture, youth and sports.

According to local daily Borneo Bulletin, the care and welfare of persons with disabilities have been a priority for the Brunei government, and there are 1,654 individuals receiving the care provider allowance in Brunei.

Brunei is a Southeast Asian country with a population of 340,000. Its rich oil and natural gas resources have enabled the sultanate to maintain a high level of social welfare over the past decades.
