JERUSALEM, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Militants in the Gaza Strip launched a projectile toward southern Israel on Monday, triggering warning sirens in the border communities of Nirim and Ein HaShlosha, the Israeli military said.
The projectile, fired from the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force, according to a military statement. No injuries or damage were reported following the attack.
Rocket fire from Gaza has become rare amid Israel's ongoing military campaign in the war-torn enclave. The last reported attack occurred a week ago, the military added.
In October 2023, Israel launched a large-scale offensive in Gaza in retaliation for a Hamas attack that killed around 1,200 people in Israel. Nearly 14 months of relentless Israeli airstrikes have taken a heavy toll on both Hamas militants and civilians.
Gaza's health authorities reported on Monday that at least 44,466 people have been killed in over 13 months of conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants. ■
