LIMA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and over 30 others injured early Saturday morning in a bus crash in northern Peru's San Martin region, said the country's Interior Ministry.
The crash happened on the Fernando Belaunde Terry Highway in Moyobamba province, the ministry said on X, noting that the police are conducting search and rescue operations at the scene.
The bus collided with a van at a dangerous curve known as "El Triunfo," causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to veer off the road, local media reported.
The injured have been taken to hospitals for treatment, according to the Ministry of Health.
The bus left the Piura region on Friday afternoon carrying 58 passengers, including around 23 students from San Jacinto de Vice school who were on a school trip to Tarapoto, the state-run news agency Andina reported.
Education Minister Morgan Quero expressed condolences and pledged government support.
"We will provide all necessary assistance during this difficult time to support our educational community," Quero said. ■
