TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has called on the members of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to oppose bids by three European powers to adopt an anti-Tehran resolution.
He made the remarks in separate phone calls Wednesday night with his counterparts from a number of the IAEA member states, including Brazil, South Africa, Bangladesh, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Pakistan and France, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry early Thursday.
The draft resolution, submitted by the E3 group of France, Germany and Britain as well as the United States to the IAEA's Board of Governors, aims to pressure Tehran over its alleged "poor cooperation."
Araghchi said the anti-Iran resolution would solely weaken and disrupt the interaction processes between Tehran and the agency and could also disrupt the IAEA's fulfillment of its technical and professional responsibilities.
Several outstanding issues remain between Tehran and the IAEA, including the agency's claims of finding "traces of uranium" at multiple "undeclared" Iranian sites, which Iran has consistently denied. ■
