RIYADH, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday two high-profile multi-billion dollar educational and arts districts to be developed on the outskirts of the capital Riyadh.
The two districts, namely the Qurain Cultural District and the Northern District, are expected to demonstrate the accelerating growth and development of Diriyah or the City of Earth, an expansive urban development project spanning an area of 14 square km, said the Diriyah Company, developer of the project.
The Qurain Cultural District will have two world-class hotels and branded residences, and the Northern District will include the King Salman Foundation, museums, a university, a library, and a public square.
Construction of the Northern District is already underway following the announcement of a 2-billion-dollar joint venture contract with the China State Construction Engineering Cooperation Limited and El Seif Engineering Contracting Co. Ltd. in July.
Located a short drive from Riyadh's city center, the Diriyah development holds historical significance as the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, dating back to 1727. The project is considered a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 economic diversification plan. The Diriyah Company operates the development project in Diriyah. ■
