KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) increased 3.9 percent year-on-year in the third quarter, official data showed Friday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the uptick was driven by manufacturing sector growth of 5.8 percent.
The electricity sector also posted a growth of 5.1 percent. The mining sector, however, declined 4.6 percent.
On a quarter-on-quarter comparison, the IPI turned upward by 3.7 percent.
As for September, the IPI grew 2.3 percent year-on-year. Output growth in the manufacturing led the way during the month, rising 3.2 percent.
In comparison to the previous month, the IPI fell 0.7 percent.
Throughout the first nine months this year, the IPI grew 3.9 percent, with all sectors posting an expansion, the mining index (1.4 percent), manufacturing index (4.3 percent) and electricity index (6.4 percent). ■
