GAZA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua)-- A polio vaccination campaign in the northern Gaza Strip resumed on Saturday after being postponed due to escalating violence, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced.

The third and final phase of the polio vaccination campaign, initially scheduled to begin on Oct. 23 in northern Gaza, had to be postponed because of the escalating violence, intense bombardment, mass displacement orders, and lack of assured humanitarian pauses, according to a UN humanitarian official.

The first phase of the campaign started in September and reached more than 560,000 children aged under 10. Authorities are now working to administer a second and final dose of the oral vaccine.
