COLOMBO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 2,000 Sri Lankans have lost their lives in road accidents from January 1 to October 25, Police Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa told journalists on Saturday.
Thalduwa reported that 1,818 fatal accidents occurred during this period, resulting in 1,898 deaths across the country. Among those killed, 676 were pedestrians, he added.
Motor vehicle accidents are common in Sri Lanka. In 2023, the country recorded 2,557 fatalities in 2,200 fatal traffic accidents. ■
