TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian civilian has been confirmed dead following Israel's airstrikes near Tehran early Saturday, bringing the total death toll to five, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.
The latest victim, Allahverdi Rahimpour, is the first civilian fatality reported after the deaths of four Iranian soldiers, according to the IRNA.
Rahimpour, a father of three, was laid to rest on Monday in Nasimshahr, Baharestan County, Tehran province, where he lived with his family.
Early Saturday, dozens of Israeli jets carried out three waves of strikes that targeted 20 military sites in Iran. The focus was on missile and drone manufacturing facilities and critical air defense systems. Iran's air defense headquarters claimed the Israeli attack resulted in "limited damage."
Extending condolences for the deaths of the four soldiers, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that the country would give a "fitting response" to Israel's "aggression" against its soil. ■
