MACAO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Integrating into national development is Macao's opportunity, said Sam Hou Fai, newly elected sixth-term chief executive designate of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), on Sunday.
Sam made the remarks during a press conference after the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election announced that he had won the election with 394 votes in favor out of 398 valid ballots.
Sam mentioned that in integrating into national development, Macao should fully leverage the advantages of the "one country, two systems" policy and actively participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With an open mindset and reform-oriented innovative measures, Sam said, Macao should implement and advance the tasks and project arrangements for the second phase of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
In terms of interacting with the mainland, Sam responded that under the leadership of the central government and in collaboration with national ministries and Guangdong Province, the Macao SAR will vigorously develop the cooperation zone in Hengqin, enabling Macao's status as an international metropolis to further improve in terms of economic development and global standing.
Regarding cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries, Sam underscored that the new administration of the Macao SAR will further promote cooperation in areas such as trade, finance, tourism, and high technology. ■
