KUWAIT CITY, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Kuwaiti Air Force F-18 fighter jet crashed and its pilot was killed "while conducting a training flight mission in the north of the country," the Kuwaiti Defense Ministry announced Wednesday.
Investigation was underway to find out the details and cause of the accident, ministry spokesman Hamad Al-Saqr was quoted as saying by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The F-18 fighter jets serve as the primary combat assets of the Kuwaiti Air Force, which purchased over 30 of these aircraft from the United States following the Gulf War. ■
