KAMPALA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his visiting Central African Republic (CAR) counterpart Faustin-Archange Touadera have held talks aimed at developing transport infrastructure linking the two countries.
Museveni on Wednesday told a public rally at celebrations to mark Uganda's 62nd independence anniversary that the CAR could become a good trading partner with East Africa, a bloc that brings together regional countries including Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Kenya.
The Ugandan leader said both countries agreed to persuade the DRC and South Sudan, CAR neighbors, to construct roads linking the CAR to Uganda.
"Then East Africa will be linked by road with CAR and beyond," Museveni said at a ceremony broadcast live from the eastern Ugandan district of Busia.
Museveni also said he has asked Uganda Airlines, the country's national airline, to look at the possibility of flying to the CAR to create a linkage.
Touadera told the rally that Uganda's development is a source of inspiration to the CAR.
The CAR leader arrived in Uganda Tuesday for a three-day official visit. ■
