CAIRO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed and 10 others wounded on Saturday in a road accident in Qena Province, southern Egypt, Egypt's state-run news website Ahram Online reported.
An investigation into the incident is underway, and initial results showed the accident occurred on the Qena-Sohag road where the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn, said the report.
Ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transfer the injured and bodies of the victims to Qena General Hospital, it added.
Egypt has a high rate of traffic accidents. According to the official statistics agency CAPMAS, road accidents in the country claimed 5,861 lives in 2023. ■
