BEIRUT, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon received 32 tons of food and medical supplies from Russia on Thursday, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Rudakov received the supplies at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport and handed them to Lebanese Environment Minister Nasser Yassin for distribution to the displaced.

Since Sept. 23, the Israeli army has been conducting intensive airstrikes on Lebanon in a dangerous escalation with Hezbollah.

This further fueled the ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah that started on Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of its ally Hamas in the Gaza Strip, triggering Israeli retaliatory fire and airstrikes in southeastern Lebanon.

According to a report released by Lebanese authorities on Wednesday, the total number of displaced persons in Lebanon due to Israeli strikes has increased to nearly 1.2 million.

The Lebanese government has been appealing for donations to help it respond to the needs of the displaced people.
