TEHRAN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- A border guard has been shot dead by "hostile" individuals while on duty at Iran's southeastern border in Sistan and Baluchestan province, the official news agency IRNA reported Friday.
The border guard, identified as army conscript Amir-Mohammad Kakhaki, was killed on duty Thursday night after being shot by the "enemy" from outside the Iranian territory, the IRNA quoted Adel Heidari, a provincial army commander, as saying.
He stressed that "even the enemies' smallest movement would not go unanswered," assuring that any threat would receive a "decisive" response from the Iranian armed forces.
Bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, Sistan and Baluchestan province has witnessed several terrorist attacks on both civilians and security forces over the past years.
On Sunday, two Iranian border guards were killed and three others injured in two separate "terrorist" attacks in the province's Rask and Hirmand counties, according to the IRNA. ■
