VILNIUS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Lithuanian parliament on Thursday ratified an agreement between Vilnius and Berlin that outlines the rights of German military and civilian personnel and their families in Lithuania, the Baltic News Service (BNS) reported.

All 88 lawmakers present voted for the agreement.

The pact grants Germany the right to use designated infrastructure in Lithuania, operate within these sites, bring in defense equipment, and set up German schools, military canteens, and shops, which will enjoy tax exemptions. Lithuania commits to providing logistical support to the Germans.

The document also requires Lithuania to provide German troops and civilians with access to necessary healthcare services, and the German military will be allowed to "establish health care, dental and veterinary facilities" if needed.

The intergovernmental deal was signed by Lithuanian and German officials in Berlin in early September. The German Bundestag is expected to ratify it next year.

The treaty was part of preparations in Lithuania to host several thousand German troops. Lithuania and Germany have agreed to deploy the brigade by the end of 2027.
